Findings from the analysis report on the 2024-2025 cannabis pilot trials
The results of the analysis of the Swiss cannabis pilot trials for the period from mid-2024 to mid-2025 are now available. The data from over 10,000 participants sends a clear signal: A regulated market can work!
Here are the three most important takeaways from the current report for the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH):
1️⃣ For the majority of participants, legal retailers have become the primary source of supply. Safety and guaranteed quality are more effective at displacing the illegal trade than repression.
2️⃣ Instead of negative incidents, we see an improvement in psychological well-being. The elimination of procurement stress and stigmatization shows positive effects on the quality of life of consumers after only a short time.
3️⃣ Professional advice is valued. Supply drives demand, as more and more participants are interested in lower-risk forms of consumption such as vaporizers.
What does this mean for the future? The evidence from the pilot projects shows that a regulated and responsibly designed market can function. Crucially, we need practical and economically realistic legislation that strengthens health and youth protection and combats the black market. Regulation is only effective if it is consistently based on scientific evidence and practical mechanisms.
