CANNABIS PILOT PROJECTS
ZURICH CITY
ZÜRI CAN – CANNABIS WITH RESPONSIBILITY
With the study “Züri Can – Cannabis with Responsibility”, the city of Zurich and the University of Zurich are investigating the possibilities and effects of regulated cannabis procurement. The aim of the study is to provide politically and technically relevant insights into the best possible use of cannabis. The studies are intended to promote public health, maintain public safety and support the protection of minors.
SwissExtract AG was granted the cultivation and manufacturing license for the “Züri Can” project by the Federal Office of Public Health on March 21, 2023, as we meet the strict requirements for the cultivation of the plants. As the main supplier, we are initially growing around 2,500 cannabis plants for the city of Zurich on an area of more than 1,000 square meters in a state-of-the-art greenhouse.
Three cannabis strains with an ideal cannabinoid and terpene profile were selected for the study: one with the maximum permitted THC content of 20%, one in the mid-range of 12 – 13% and one with a very balanced content of 10% THC and 10% % CBD. The first deliveries are expected in mid to late August 2023. Further studies with public and university providers as well as private project operators will follow this year. SwissExtract AG will again produce the study cannabis for some of these projects.
On the occasion of the start of sales at Züri Can, the project team and Stefan Strasser answer various questions and provide an insight into the city of Zurich cannabis study.

SCIENTIFIC STUDY ON LEGAL CANNABIS SALES AND CONSUMPTION
The cannabis pilot “Grashaus Projects” is a collaboration between ISGF and Sanity Group Switzerland AG. Together they are committed to research in the field of cannabis and are thus making a valuable contribution to the future of Swiss drug policy, which prioritizes the health of consumers, education and the protection of minors.
The Swiss Institute for Addiction and Health Research (ISGF), an institute associated with the University of Zurich, is conducting the scientific study.
The practical implementation of the sale and purchase of the products is organized by Sanity Group Switzerland AG, a Swiss subsidiary of Sanity Group GmbH from Germany. The Sanity Group's interest lies in promoting research on the topic of cannabis.
The Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) approved the cannabis products for this study.
SwissExtract AG supplies the “Grashaus Projects” pilot test as an exclusive supplier with various products such as flowers, hashish, vapes and edibles. Our cultivation company has high standards of quality, sustainability, traceability and Swissness for the production of their BioSuisse-certified cannabis. To ensure high product quality, SwissExtract has the entire value chain under one roof, from planting the seeds to the finished extract. As part of this pilot, SwissExtract AG's cannabis products will be sold in the first specialist store for legal, THC-containing products in the canton of Basel-Landschaft from the beginning of December.
